From Business School to Floristry: My Unexpected Path
Sometimes life takes unexpected turns that lead us to a path where we can truly flourish. That is exactly what happened to me. Moving from a master's degree in business school to a floristry CAP apprenticeship was not an obvious route, but every step helped reveal my passion for flowers. Here is my story.
The turning point: a need for renewal
During my master's degree, I worked as an executive assistant apprentice. Admin tasks were familiar to me: meetings, schedules, reports... But honestly, it was not very exciting. My work felt monotonous and did not make much sense to me. I respected the job, but something was missing: momentum, passion.
I felt more drawn to marketing: creating visuals, designing strategies for products or brands... But even there, something held me back. I could not find the spark, that little flame that makes a job so captivating you forget the time.
Then Covid arrived. Lockdown. Endless meetings where I rarely spoke, fatigue, and the feeling of being stuck in a routine with no end. Fortunately, I had a garden. And that garden changed everything.
A spring revelation
It was spring. Flowers were blooming and the seasons were shifting. In that apartment with a garden I knew by heart, a question began to grow: What if I actually did what I love?
I wanted to create, to make things with my hands, to work in a craft. And I loved flowers: their beauty, their cycles, their seasons. So why not become a florist? What started as a simple idea became a real project. In April, I began looking into starting a Floristry CAP in September. My goal was to do it as an apprenticeship, so I could dive straight into the profession.
The beginning: a path full of obstacles
With a clear goal in mind, I started. CV in hand, I visited several florists in Toulouse, including a city-centre shop I dreamed of joining. I went for it boldly. The result? No answer, or refusals. And I admit, it is easy to feel discouraged.
Thankfully, I had strong support around me. My loved ones believed in me and encouraged me to keep going. So I kept following up, visiting shops in person and showing my determination.
And one day, it paid off. The shop I dreamed of called me back for a trial day. One day turned into three years. After my CAP, I continued with a Brevet Professionnel, still in that same shop.
A lesson in perseverance
This journey taught me several essential things:
- Do not give up: rejection is part of the path, but it should not stop a passion.
- Surround yourself with positive people: my loved ones played a key role in giving me confidence and encouraging me to keep going.
- Never forget your why: doubts will appear, but you have to remember why you started.
And now?
Today, I am proud that I followed my intuition. From administrative routine to floral creation, every stage was a challenge, but also an opportunity to grow. Working with flowers connects me to the cycles of nature, the beauty of the seasons and the satisfaction of creating something with my own hands.
This career change led me to found Poésie Fleurie, my independent floral studio in Toulouse. Today I create bespoke bouquets, flower weddings, decorate shop windows and offer floral subscriptions to businesses. Every composition carries the story of this journey: perseverance, love for living things, and the desire to create beauty by hand.
If you are also questioning your future or your career, remember: it is never too late to change direction. With a little courage and a lot of passion, anything becomes possible.
