Volfoni Christmas Window Decoration: My Biggest Floristry Challenge
An exceptional opportunity in floral decoration
As a young freelance florist running Poésie Fleurie in Toulouse, every new commission was a chance to prove what I could do. When Volfoni contacted me for their Christmas window display, I knew it would be my biggest challenge. Volfoni is a large, iconic restaurant in Toulouse, located on Place Wilson and open from 8:30am to midnight, seven days a week.
I was just starting out as a freelancer, and Christmas requests were coming in quickly. I was juggling small projects and much larger ones. When Volfoni contacted me, I did not hesitate. It was a chance to show what I was capable of, with a window seen by a huge number of people every day.
The technical challenges of a large Christmas window display
📏 Project dimensions:
- 52 metres of fir garland to install
- 5 frames to decorate
- A considerable total surface
⚙️ Organization required:
- Careful planning for every step
- Delivery coordination
- Time management between sites
- Attention to detail for a perfect result
⚡️ Constraints:
- An extremely intense Christmas period
- Very tight deadlines
- Several projects running at the same time
- Very early installation at 5am, so the restaurant's continuous service would not be disrupted
Organization: the key to success
The Christmas period is particularly intense for all shop owners in Toulouse, and I had to adapt to their constraints while honouring my commitments to other clients. Working for such a visible establishment as Volfoni, in the heart of Place Wilson, added another level of expectation: there was no room for rushing the result, even under pressure.
The day itself: a memorable installation
The installation day was a true marathon.
We started at 5am, in the December cold, to be ready before the first customers arrived.
At the time, I did not have my own utility vehicle, so I had to organize the transport of the materials and the 52 metres of fir garland in other ways, which made logistics more complicated.
The installation was intense: constant back-and-forth trips to collect equipment, carefully fixing each section of fir garland, decorating the 5 frames one by one... all while the clock was ticking.
As the morning went on, the first customers began to arrive, adding extra pressure.
We finally finished around noon, exhausted but proud of the result.
Despite those difficult conditions, the final result lived up to our expectations.
Looking back: what this project taught me
This project taught me so much:
- The importance of flawless organization
- Stress management during intense periods
- Trusting my own abilities
- The satisfaction of taking on a challenge of this scale
Conclusion: a Christmas window display that helped me grow
The Volfoni window display will stay in my memory for a long time as a turning point in my career. It was a huge challenge, but exactly the kind of project that helped me grow as a freelance florist. Today, when I walk past that window, I cannot help smiling when I think about everything I accomplished.
If you also have ambitious projects, feel free to contact me. Every new challenge is an opportunity to create something extraordinary.
